Workshop with children's author Gerry Boland
We were delighted to have the opportunity to have workshops with Gerry. We had 3 different workshops on different aspects of English, while developing our vocabulary throughout.
During our first workshop we used the narrative style of writing, telling a story about a duck and a fox. We used lots of descriptive writing using some new words we learnt also. In out next workshop we were looking at poetry. We created our own poems based on different letters of the alphabet. For our last workshop, we created poems called " I am I am I am". We will share some of our work on the blog over the next while.

Irish Dancing
Ms Costello showed us Irish dancing.
We did a fun dance.
We split up into 5 groups of 4
and you always put your right foot first when-ever you are dancing
The dance was called Walls of Limerick.
We all loved it.
We all did this before in fourth
class and some of us went to Irish camp and did the dance. Irish dancing is great
everyone should try it. We did stage 1 to stage 4. If we got a chance again we’d
say all of us would do it.

Mayan Masks
We learned all about The Mayans. We created our own masks by Paper Mache. After we left them to dry, we painted them according to what type of mask we made, e.g. a battle, celebration or death mask.

Space week
As part of space week it was our mission to create a rocket using Tangrams. Many of us completed our mission.

We did an experiment using fruits to see the size of the planets in relation to each other. First we were given some clues to help us out. We tried to figure out which was the biggest-smallest.
We figured it out! Mercury is the smallest planet- the closet to the sun- the size of a peppercorn. Next we had Venus and Earth, similar in size- the size of a cherry tomato. Then we had Mars, the size of a blueberry. The next is the biggest planet- Jupiter, the size of a watermelon. Saturn followed after, the size of a grapefruit. Uranus is next, the size of an apple. The planet the furtherest from the Sun is Neptune, the size of a lime

Space week
As part of Space week we were learning about the size of the moon compared to the earth. We found out that the moon is one quarter the size of earth. We measured out the size the moon would be using real life objects. We then looked at the distance of the moon from earth. We made a guess at where we thought the moon was in relation to earth. Then we found out the moon is nine earth circumferences away from the earth.
